About the event

We are excited to announce the first ever Love Her Wild Ten Tors Challenge!

The Challenge!

The Ten Tors Challenge is a two-day expedition in which teams must visit 10 checkpoints over the wild terrain of Dartmoor. Teams must work together to plan and navigate routes between the checkpoints, camp overnight and complete the Challenge within a defined time. This is an adventure that demands careful planning, determination, endurance, skilful navigation and teamwork! It is to be completed as a team not as a race. Whether you want to relive your Ten Tors experience or are new to the concept and want an adventure, Ten Tors is an iconic team hiking challenge! Alongside the challenges, there'll be daft traditions, camaraderie and creativity!

What's involved?

On the Saturday morning you’ll arrive at our Dartmoor basecamp and meet your team. Together you will plan your route between your designated tors, undergo a kit check and briefing before the starting ceremony! You’ll need to work together as a team to navigate through the wilds of Dartmoor to reach each of your tors before setting up your tents for the night at our semi-wild basecamp (you’ll have access to a compost loo and water). On Sunday, you’ll need to organise your team to wake up, break camp, plan the day’s route then pace your walk to cross the finish line in time! Cheer on other teams crossing the finish line then celebrate together with an awards ceremony before heading home proud of your achievements! You'll be supported by leaders with 12 years experience of training Ten Tors teams who will help you be as independent as possible.

LHW Ten Tors Rules

  • Participants must be prepared to walk at least 15km on 2 consecutive days over uneven, hill and moorland terrain, carrying all the items included in the official kit list. Camping kit may be carried by choice or left at basecamp.
  • Participants must be confident navigating with a map and compass over hill and moorland terrain including being able to interpret landscape features, measure time, distance and take bearings. Need practice? Check this out.
  • Checkpoints must be visited in the sequence shown.
  • Teams will be decided based upon final event numbers and skills and experience of participants. As with any other LHW adventure, it will be about spending time getting to know new people.
  • Teams must complete the Challenge within the specific timeframe. Extensions may only be granted by the Ten Tors Challenge leader. Participants must be available for the full duration of the adventure, so plan travel and commitments accordingly.
  • Except in cases of emergency, teams must stay together at all times.
  • The Challenge must be completed without outside assistance including entering shops, places of refreshment, or receiving any advice or support.
  • Except in cases of emergency and official Challenge purposes, use of phones, smart watches, radio, GPS or any other artificial aid is forbidden.
  • The Ten Tors Leader is responsible for the Event and the safeguarding of the participants. The Leader may amend the Rules at any time and in all matters their decision is final.
